(Warning: this is a photo-heavy post!)
The first weekend of August is my hometown’s rodeo weekend, known as “Pioneer Days”. It’s a weekend I try to go home for each year because the weather is usually good, my brother tries to go at the same time, and it’s a great time to see a few old friends without spending the whole weekend running around.
I have been really excited for this event this year because I was looking forward to taking our horses and taking Kelly riding in Montana without all the snow.
And I think it’s safe to say that Montana did not disappoint! We got to go riding, swim our horses in the river, go out on the side-by-sides (even seeing some country I’d never seen before), go to the rodeo and the parade, spend good quality time with my family. It was amazing.
These pictures were from our “river ride” Friday morning. Fawkes wasn’t super interested in the river once he got his belly wet the first time, but Spur was all about it. I have to admit, I was a little wary because I had been on Spur bareback exactly one time before this, for about 30 seconds in a round pen 3 years ago. And if you’ve been following along with us, you know this horse is WEIRD. But, just to prove his weirdness, he was just fine with the bareback, the swimming, and the rafters floating past us.
On Saturday we got to go out on the side-by-sides and spend a few hours getting extremely dusty and having quite a bit of fun. You can see from Kelly’s expression in one photo that there were some scary parts as well… haha! Just kidding, I think the only person that ever got a little scared was me. Whatever.
Also, I never thought I’d see the day when my Dad was using a selfie stick. I’ve never even used one…
Sunday started with a little ride around Dad’s place, then to town for the parade (where my brother picked up a hitch-hiker partway through), and then it was rodeo time!
Oh, and if you’re wondering how Piper’s vacation went… she was either sleeping on the couch, or out enjoying the Montana air.
(All photos edited with Piper’s Zoo presets which are now available in the shop!)
